I love it when I gets what I wants. Petty and his Heartbreakers opened the 12-minute show with "American Girl," continued with "I Won't Back Down," and then it was "Free Fallin'." The closer was "Runnin' Down a Dream."
Straightforward songs, no strange choreography or color-card stunts in the stands. Petty's an American classic -- he doesn't need all that extra junk. Screw the second half -- just let the concert keep going. I wanna hear "Don't Come Around Here No More"!
Yeah, that FREEEE could have been PREEEE-recorded. Especially since Petty didn't attempt those high notes on the other songs. I guess in a stadium setting like that, they have to take some precautions to make things sound as good as possible. So, therefore, I'm a little less pissed at Jordin Sparks. Only a little, though.
Yes, that echo "free" was pre-recorded, but Petty's always had that. He sings all the words, but he uses that backup "free" only for effect. Look up his performance of the song on Saturday Night Live when the song was new, it also utilizes that echo, which I think sounds awesome. And you gotta be kidding me, Petty is infinitely better than Prince.
@madTrexHatter apparently you've been smoking a little too much like your idol, Tom Petty. You've never seen Petty and Prince perform together, guess who rocked out more. It wasn't Petty. Petty MIGHT be up to par with Prince. Now get a clue, stop the joint smoking (and clear the ears).

Good stuff. Not Prince-in-the-rain good, but good.
But I could've sworn I heard a little backing recording hit the "FREEE!" high note in Free Fallin. Maybe it was just me.
